Thornaby & Barwick Medical Group is currently an eight Partner (three female and five male) PMS (Personal Medical Services) practice based on two sites. We also have several other doctors employed at the practice.

Our main surgery in the centre of Thornaby is a prestigious purpose built development which opened in November 2003 and was a joint venture with a neighbouring practice. Our second surgery also occupies purpose built premises in Ingleby Barwick, a greenfield development near to Thornaby.

The practice serves Thornaby, Ingleby Barwick and Maltby and has a long tradition of providing healthcare in the area for over 60 years. Our list size is currently in excess of 22,160 patients, with over 11,200 of these in Ingleby Barwick.

Training Practice

We were appointed as a training practice in August 2006 and now teach Speciality Registrars in General Practice.

GP Registrars are fully qualified doctors, usually with experience in hospital medicine. The Registrar is here to gain experience of General Practice with a view to qualifying as a GP in the future.

You may be offered an appointment to see one of our GP Registrars but if you would prefer not to, please tell the reception staff when you are booking your appointment.

As part of the training, we may ask if you object to having your consultation videotaped. This is solely for training purposes and your refusal will not affect the care you receive. The recording will be erased after use. If you do not want your consultation to be videotaped, please let our reception staff know.

As part of the practice's commitment to training future doctors, we also provide teaching sessions for medical students. Patients may be asked if they would mind seeing and speaking to a student prior to their consultation with a doctor. If you prefer not to be seen by them or to be seen by the doctor in their presence, please let our reception staff know and your wishes will be respected.
